Leaving the Cape Peninsula on the N7 you enter Swartland, the gateway to the West Coast District, crisscross the Berg River region over into the Cedar Mountains and ending up in Namaqualand, home of Madeliefie Makietie.

Darling Circle Route
Home of tannie Evita, the ambassador to Bapetikosweti, and of course Eva’s Peron where you’ll stop for a hilarious session with Pieter Dirk Uys, if she’s not on an unofficial political tour. If so, there is plenty wine tasting in the rounds. Make sure to visit the yearly Darling Wildflower Show in September.
Kasteel Berg (Castle Mountain) keeping watch over the Riebeek valley, with it’s abundance of vineyards, olive orchards, meet-and-eats, accommodation and the yearly Olive and Arts festival. Take a 4-day break and get lost in wine and olive tasting, overindulgence and boutique shops.

Tucked away and on top of the mountains, award winning wines are exported from this region to the rest of the world. Make time and book for a Wine and Food pairing session at some of the wine tasting venues. This region offers some breathtaking scenery and accommodation too.
Set three kilometres from the sea at Lambert's Bay, the 10-hectare Sir Lambert vineyard produces excellent Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz grapes. Wine tasting can be done at Teubes Family Wines in Vredendal.
Olifants River Valley
With it’s close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and cool afternoon breezes, the region produces some excelent award winning wines. September is the month for the now famous Madeliefie Makietie festival where you’ll have the opportunity to taste all the wines of the region. Book now for next time!
